The function of fourteen segment display is similar to that of seven segment display .
But this is used to display alphabetic numbers A,B,.....Z which is almost impossible to represent character using seven segment display .In the case of fourteen segment display it have fourteen segments each segment are made up of LED and have fourteen pins for VCC and all negative pins (cathode pins are made common ) are combined to make one pin . So all together it have 15 pins .Sorry i forget to tell you there are 16 pins one extra pin to display point . 🙂

It is almost impossible to make such connection if you want to make a display that displays something automatically because it require too much connection wires . So we need to connect this display to a special IC called driver IC .This IC decodes and reduce pin connections .MAX6954 is one of such driver used for microcontroller.
