Ta‘ū is the largest island in the Manu‘a Group and the easternmost volcanic island of the Samoan Islands. Ta‘ū is part of American Samoa. In the early 19th century, the island was sometimes called Opoun.(source :Wikipedia ) .
This island has total area of 44.31 square kilometer and population of 970(census:2010) and is now completely powered with solar power . the solar panel reserve area of 28328 square meter
This island had been powered by diesel thermal plant . Which was too expensive and not environment friendly . It has been expected to reduce pollution tremendously after installing this power plant .
The solar plant was installed by a California-based company called SolarCity, and purchased by Elon Musk’s Tesla (South African-born Canadian-American business magnate, investor, engineer, and inventor.) Also he is the founder, CEO, and CTO of SpaceX.)
The total cost of this solar project is $8 million and was funded by the U.S. Department of Interior and the American Samoa Power Authority (ASPA).
