International team of researcher have developed a low power on-chip sensor that can sense air pollution and monitor other atmospheric parameters at normal room temperature .
The team have used conventional method to fabricate the chip using a chemical sensitive field effective transistor ( CS-FET ) based on 3.5 nm silicon channel transistor . This sensor chip give normal output consuming minimal power , which can be very useful modern CPU’s .
Researcher have successfully developed a drone based on Nanochip gas sensor and they observed result and found that the chip is very sensitive to H2S, H2, NO2 ,hydrogen, colorless, odorless, flammable gas , Liquefied Petroleum Gas or LPG.
Generally silicon device do not have any response to the gas or chemical substance . But by adding proper chemical gate within the field effective transistor we can make highly sensitive chip to sense chemical substance or gases .
This technology is very helpful to upgrade smart phones to sense gases in urban areas and where safety is major concern . Before these sensor are used packaging design and long-term durability is still engineering challenge .
